Swedish media reported Thunbergs actions and the news became widely known. Shortly thereafter thousands of students from around the world took part in the #FridaysforFuture strike, which saw students skip school on Fridays to demonstrate against climate change. Climate activists from all over the globe organized the inaugural Global Strike for Climate in 2019. The strike was hugely successful with over 1.6 million participants from more than 125 nations took part.
